History and Evolution of Dongmyo Flea Market
After the Korean War, street vendors gathered in Hwanghak-dong by Cheonggyecheon, gradually forming an antique market. In 2003, due to Cheonggyecheon restoration, many stalls were removed, and Seoul City opened a market inside Dongdaemun Stadium in 2004 to accommodate them. The current Seoul Folk Flea Market was created after moving to the former Sungin Girls’ Middle School site, while remaining vendors settled at Dongmyo Flea Market.
